Hypertension

Blood pressure that stays high over time is one of the leading causes of kidney damage — and one of the most treatable. We look for the cause, not just the number, and build a plan around it.

Our physicians treat straightforward high blood pressure as well as cases that have not responded to several medications. Where the picture suggests an underlying cause, we work it up rather than simply adding another prescription. Ambulatory monitoring lets us see what blood pressure actually does across a full day at home and at work, which often tells a different story than a single reading in the office.

Kidney Disease

From a first abnormal lab result through advanced chronic kidney disease, our focus is on slowing progression and keeping you ahead of the disease rather than behind it.

We diagnose and manage chronic kidney disease at every stage, along with the conditions that travel with it — diabetic kidney disease, hyperparathyroidism, electrolyte and fluid imbalances, and glomerular and tubulointerstitial disease. When the diagnosis is not clear from blood and urine testing alone, kidney biopsy gives us the tissue-level answer needed to choose the right treatment.

Dialysis

Our physicians care for patients across five DaVita dialysis facilities in Bergen County, and prepare patients well before the first treatment is needed.

Preparation matters. Starting dialysis on a planned schedule, with access placed in advance and a modality chosen deliberately, is a very different experience from starting it in an emergency. We walk through in-center hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and home dialysis so the choice fits your life. Plasmapheresis is available for the conditions that call for it.

Transplant

Timing is everything with transplant. We refer early, coordinate the evaluation, and stay with you long after the surgery.

We evaluate prospective living donors, determine the right moment to refer for transplant evaluation, and coordinate with the transplant centers at Hackensack University Medical Center and Saint Barnabas. After transplant, our physicians manage the ongoing nephrology care that protects the new kidney.

Kidney Stones

Passing one stone is painful. Passing them repeatedly is a metabolic problem — and usually a solvable one.

For patients with recurrent stones we run a metabolic work up to identify what is actually driving stone formation, then treat it with targeted medication and a diet built for that stone type. Our educational library includes the low-oxalate and low-purine guidance most stone formers need.

Anemia

Anemia is one of the most common complications of kidney disease, and one of the most noticeable once it is corrected.

Healthy kidneys produce the hormone that signals the body to make red blood cells. When they stop, fatigue and shortness of breath follow. We manage anemia associated with kidney disease with IV iron infusions and erythropoietin therapy, monitored on an ongoing basis.
